About this image
Fort Rock is a mystical place for me. This gorgeous rock formation rises up out of the flat desert floor of Central Oregon—an ancient, ice-age lake bed, in Lake County, Oregon. It is nearly 2 billion years old. Much history surrounds this rock, from the time Native Americans used it as a home and spiritual ground. Archeologists found sandals made from local sagebrush, dating back 8,000 years. I am a member of the Fort Rock Historical Society, located in a restored section of the town, about 2 miles away.
This was a beautiful warm day. The sun was warm, and there was nothing but silence, except for the breeze flowing across the desert floor. With my Hasselblad camera and a 50 mm lens, I made this exposure on Fuji Acros film, and used stand development to bring out the subtle details of the sky, rock, and desert.
This gorgeous print is available at a special price of $500 for this month. The print is 11x11”, and mounted and matted on 16x20” board and matted. It is a beautiful piece that will fit in well with your collection.
